Section 106.115, Alcoholic Beverage Code, requires minors convicted of alcohol related offenses, such as purchase, attempted purchase, possession, consumption, driving under the influence, misrepresentation of age, and improper use of a license, to attend an alcohol awareness approved by the Texas Commission of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.  In addition, the stature also assesses a fine, requires community service.  Failure to complete the alcohol awareness program or the community service within 90 days of conviction will result in a license suspension of up to 6 months.  If the defendant has no license, a license can be denied for up to six months.  

Course Purpose

The 6-hour Alcohol Education Program for Minors (MIP) is designated to present information on the effects of alcohol upon behavior, help participants identify their own drinking patterns or problems, educate participants about the laws relating to underage drinking and assist participants in developing a plan to reduce the probability of involvement in future alcohol-related illegal behavior.
