Article 42.12, Section 13(j), Code of Criminal Procedures, requires persons convicted of subsequent DWI offenses and placed on community supervision to attend a program for repeat offenders approved by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse .  Failure to complete the program will result in the offender’s license being suspended  until the education program is completed. 

Key Points:

  • The 32-hour DWI Intervention Program is designed to have participants recognize their substance abusing behavior, accept that there is a problem, and seek help through recovery services.  The program purposes are to:

     

    • Educate about chemical dependency and associated problems
    • Intervene in the alcohol/drug abusing lifestyles of the offenders in order to encourage entry into treatment where indicated
    • Prevent further substance abuse-related problems
